Listening is a skill

“Be a good listener.Your ears will never get you in trouble”

 • Frank Tyger •

Most times, it’s great to simply shut the hell up. Don’t excuse my french, welcome it.

It took for me to get personal and isolate myself from a lot of people I love. I even went through the heights of relocating to another state. It was hard as hell of course, but it was necessary. Investing in yourself is very self-empowering but also uncomfortable. You shed old skin, habits, and people. And with that comes silence. You end up eliminating distractions, burdens masked as relationships and trauma-bonding masked as love. Whew. That is pressure on the mental.

When you silence the noise and people, you hear your soul and your demons. Let’s be real. We never want to sit in silence or alone because it forces you to face your own internal shortcomings. It forces you to be accountable for what needs to change and the work it takes to get there. You are forced to listen to your conscious and subconscious mind. It forces you to listen to the signs. It forces you to listen to your intuition,it’s the captain of your vision. You gain the opportunity to . . . listen.

Did you know?

Hearing is the first sensory we develop after seeing (as in vision of course). The ears form after 14-16 weeks in the womb —(look it up there’s multiple studies and every baby has a different outcome due to the wombs’ environment and genetic structure).

Well look at that, born with two ears and one mouth for a specific reason. To listen and download information. When you gain information, you gain insight. When you apply that insight, you gain experience. Once you gain experience, you gain a story to tell, a testimony.

Gasp , look at the benefits!! Haha.

Now don’t get me wrong, there are multiple ways to listen. Listen to a teacher, a spouse, a preacher or the next door neighbor throwing pots at her boyfriend for coming home at 2 a.m. Stay with me here, whatever you’re listening to or eavesdropping on, helps you gain understanding.

Ladies, when he’s expressing himself and having a raw moment of transparency, loosen you LUVMEHAIR wig and shuddup.

Fellas, when she explains that not going to the dentist for over 10 years is not okay, literally close your mouth and listen.

More benefits . . . since you’re still not listening

  • You become an effective communicator. It’ll be easier to respond with common sense and logic and avoid being driven by emotion. And now conflicts are resolved much quicker.

  • Your relationships strengthen. When you listen, its to understand not respond. People can sense not being understood.

  • You become present. That’s what we all need. Someone giving us the space to be vulnerable, while they’re present.

  • Learn to measure using your voice for important issues as you listen to your mentors and leaders.

With respect and love,

Shut the hell up . . . respectfully. It’s good for the soul.
